Where there is an LCD, usually there is some form of enclosure, panel or housing. More often than not this is made out of plastic, as it can be moulded and shaped much easier than metal. It is lighter, which is a benefit for overall product weight and comes in various grades, specifications and colours.
Tooling for plastic moulding in the UK is often expensive and time consuming. This has discouraged companies from considering injection moulding, even stopped them considering a new product, as the capital investment in tooling was too high.
